I am writing to you on behalf
of the over 7,000 active and retired members of the OPP. We were all very concerned about what happened to you at the hands of
such ruthless and uncaring youth. Justice has not been served in your case.
There is little that we can say to make
your pain diminish. What we can do is offer our united support for your speedy recovery and our assurance that we will
collectively work you and your family to abolish legislation that only contributes to such anti-social and violent behaviour.
Neither general nor specific deterrence is achieved under this Act.
We understand that your parents have mounted a
personal campaign to address problems with the Young Offenders Act. We want you to know that we support such action and will
assist you in any way we can. We are now rallying political and community groups who are of a like mind. More importantly
though, at this time we want to wish you well in your speedy recovery.
To you and your family, who we know love you
dearly, we offer some thoughts. Continue your brave struggle, never give up, be tenacious in your goal of getting well
together as a family and know you are not alone. We know that with compassion and strength, you will succeed.
Our very
best wishes, and on behalf of the men and women of the OPP, a speedy and complete recovery.
Sincerely,
Brian
Adkin President ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE ASSOCIATION
